Saturday Night Insanity @ Stubli

This place is crazy. You could never get the insanity that ensued this evening in the bar i’m playing, back home in the United States. I’m talking dancing on tables, singing, having a good time, NO negativity, NO fights, Just drink, song, and dancing…And a lot of hooking up. Fucking Europeans know how to party. They make Americans look like silly little children by comparison. Back home as small and as packed as the Stubli is(like you can’t even fucking move in there packed like a Sardine!) mixed with alcohol you there would be guns, knives, fights and nastiness. I don’t know what it is but we have VERY DIFFERENT cultures and ours is Violent. Maybe it’s all the vacation they Europeans have, maybe it’s that they know they have basic things like healthcare, an incredible social infrastructure, and their society seems to be set up to move along very efficiently. There is a lot to like about it. However they do not have our Bill of Rights and constitution which is unique in the history of the world with regard to sovereign human rights. If you could mix the European way of life and superimpose our Bill of Rights, it would be the perfect society I believe.
But anyway the gig went well tonight..My voice was nice and strong but the thing about this gig is you have to play the serious sing a long hits and there is a European Songlist and even regionally, the list varies. This is NOT an artistic gig in the least..In fact it is the least artistic gig I have ever done and it’s more an entertainer gig. Country Roads is the biggest hit of the night which seems INSANE to an American but someone redid the tune here in Europe and it was a HUGE hit recently. I have never seen the dancing and singing right along with your the entire night and you have to keep an incredible amount of energy up for 5 sets!! This gig is NOT for the faint of heart!..It’s the toughest gig I have ever done in 20 years but they say it’s easier during the week so I have another insane weekend and a Friday to get through then a bunch of less intense, yet STILL 5 set weeknights. It will be a badge of honor to get through this gig. I CAN NOT IMAGINE doing it for a month. A guy back in Copenhagen just got back from doing a month in the Stubli..He’s about 5 years younger then me but I still give him Kudos for doing it. If I come back next year I will try to do the Muli bar which is non smoking and not as intense. I could do a week in each if I had to. I’d like to come back and get my $900 in taxes back…:)
Let me say a word about the Hotel Shweizerhof’s food. We get lunch and dinner there and it’s fully Gourmet 4 star level..Forget lunch because I would have to get up too early to even make it but dinner is sick…You get an appetizer, a soup, salad, a main course, and SICK SICK SICK Desert bar..It all comes in Courses and the presentation is something you would see at the finest resorts and restaurants. It’s a joy to look at as well as a treat to the pallet.
Well, I WILL be moving into the other building tomorrow no matter what, so Hopefully I will be able to post all these blogs. I’m looking forward to catching up with Laura, My cats and friends and family. I hope everyone is well. I’m busting ass over here and I actually miss home already..2 1/2 weeks gone…Another 2 1/2 months is going to be very tough. I dare say I will NOT be staying away for this long again. The gigs are tough over here for the money. The money is good because you are working so much but per gig it’s WAY better back home..Well, it was way better but things were starting to take a shit when I left. I hope it gets better but I have serious concerns for our Economy and if it goes they way I’m thinking, I may be forced to come back to Europe because I need to make $$..I would hate to HAVE to do anything, ya know? Oh well. Onward and upward.
