Songwriter, Producer, Musician, Performer, Studio

I’ve always done it for myself and for me, the music never stops in my head. It’s my GREAT LOVE in life and nothing can be done about that. I struggled for years to try to “make a living” from music and even though i made money, i was making compromises that made me extremely unhappy. So now, I’m doing music for he same reasons I started playing and writing for..BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD!!!! It gets me off like NOTHING ELSE in the world and i’m in love with creating, improving as an artist and writer, recording, etc….

Think about the true artists..Monet, for example..He didn’t make a dime in his art his entire life but he’s regarded as one of the true masters and it’s clear from his journals and writings that all he was concerned with was getting better as an artist and creating! Being burdened with this desire for “financial security” was never a thing for him. He just did his thing and was broke but developed the art to an extremely high degree. We’re never going to see masters develop again like that unless they approach music from truly artistically minded direction and do not think of the financial aspects of it..Always the struggle of the artist and it’s a drag!

So I’ve come to the conclusion that for a real artist finding something that is relatively enjoyable that can make you steady money but that doesn’t “take over your life” like an all encompassing job, is key! Finding work that is fulfilling but that you don’t really have to put too much thought into it so that you can work on your art and let it simmer in your mind even at work! That’s probably the best kind of job for true artist to have if they are so inclined as to even want to bother with with “working” Some artists really have no time or desire to waste their time doing anything but their art.

IF you aren’t an artist to that degree and you just like music a lot..Maybe at a hobbiest level or someplace in between try to find a job you enjoy enough and at least like that also leaves you some time and headspace to be able to do your music when you can. Good luck!!! Living in the Westernized material world can really be a bummer. I lean more toward the Artist in that I don’t have the patience or desire to focus on much more besides music and now film which i’m into. Having to “work” is really a HUGE distraction for me…..I can’t imagine a more difficult or a more rewarding lifetime but we must accept who we are and enjoy this short ride!!! Good luck and be true to yourself lest you get to the end unfulfilled
