Songwriter, Producer, Musician, Performer, Studio

Hi all, it’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog so I figured I would let everyone know what’s been going on. First and foremost, happy new year and may I say, I wish nothing but the best for you all in 2010.

Well, lets see. In 2009 I returned from Copenhagen on February 15th and spent a month in FL visiting with friends and my then girlfriend Nancy. It was a nice cooling off period after my 2nd 17 week run in Northern Europe. In mid March I returned to Alaska where I consolidated my things, packed up what I needed to take with me and planned my move. In Mid April Laura and I headed down to Los Angeles where we met up with Mark, hit NAB in Vegas, then went back to LA. Laura headed back to AK and then in the beginning of my 3rd week in CA, Nancy came out to visit from NJ. We had a great time and it was fun showing her S. California. We said our goodbyes to Mark the beginning of May and headed to NJ where I have been based out of ever since. May 13th I went back to Copenhagen for 2 weeks, then did a ship gig out of Amsterdam for the month of June. During July and August I mostly chilled out here and did the whole summer at the beach, playing guitar, writing tunes, planning the future thing with Nancy. Oh yea, in Early July Nancy and I got engaged:) I had to head back to Amsterdam to do another ship gig in September and 2 weeks after I returned I flew to Anchorage Alaska to pack the rest of my stuff, sell what I could, pack up my truck and move Laura and I back down to the lower 48. It was an almost 3 week process doing all that, driving my truck from AK to Missouri to drop Laura off then back home to NJ but I made it unscathed! Next we took the kids to spend a week in FL with my Family over Thanksgiving but I had to be back in NJ to fly back to Amsterdam for my last Ship run of 38 days! I did the month of December until the 6th of Jan when I finally made it home! It was a crazy year to be sure and all told, I spend 12 1/2 months in Europe in the last 2 years. Right now I don’t have plans to head back there anytime soon.

I know you’re all thinking what’s up with the music? I am after all an Original Singer Songwriter first and foremost, right? Right! Yes, it’s been 5 1/2 years since I put out my last studio album but in that time I have been writing my ass off, exploring different styles, song structure and really working on my writing. Especially my lyrics. My songs have changed quite a bit, while still retaining the elements that make them mine. Basically I wanted to explore more standard folk/rock musical structure but with more detailed lyrics and I have written many albums worth of material in the process! Everyone who has heard my music knows I can come up with complicated chord structures and melody but I wanted to go back to my roots and get more descriptive in my lyrics to an extent, and grow. I find lyric writing to be the most challenging while chords and melody are quite easy for me. In short, this is the main reason I haven’t put out any music since TROUBADOUR. I’ve been working and growing as an artist.

That said, 2010 is going to be a year of releasing music for me. I have a bunch that I would love people to hear so my plan is to put it out! Some of it in the next couple months, more by Summer and yet more by the end of the year! It ranges from intimate Americana solo acoustic stuff to twang rock, to Folk/rock and there are alot of socially relevant topics covered. I’m very proud of my new music and hopefully some of you will dig it as well, and I can’t wait to get some of it out!

In a couple a weeks I’m relocating to Los Angeles, CA where I will be attending school for Cinema/Video Production. My emphasis is in Audio, Audio Post, Mixing, Re-recording, ADR and other related activities in TV/Cinema. I hope to get into the field along with my ongoing singer songwriter career. There’s a great music scene with some seriously talented people in LA and I hope to get out there and mix it up with everyone! I want to play as much as possible and plan on investigating the House Concert scene across the West. My first love is performing and writing so anything I do in film will be a side gig. It’s tough to be able to live as an artist but i’m committed to doing it, so a few different income streams is important. Mine will be side man gigs, studio sessions, recording/producing and Mixing others, solo performing, band work, touring, CD and merch sales, and whatever else I can think of. I feel life is too short to do anything but what you are really passionate about.

So that’s what I have so far. It’s been an interesting ride and coming into my 39th year, it’s proving that the ride continues. Thanks for caring and thanks for being my friends! Take care and I hope to see you all soon!

Sean

You hit the nail on the head man! Billy Joel said, “always do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life.” Best of luck in twenty ten, and I will see you soon in SoCal.
